In recent years, our friends down at Hackney Wick have been bringing us some of the most eye-catching and unique kits in grassroots football.

Meanwhile, the Netflix show Top Boy has had us all enthralled. The latest series was released earlier this year and if you haven’t seen it yet, what on earth have you been doing? The drama is set in the fictional Summerhouse Estate in Hackney.

Nike posed us with the challenge of filling the shoes of some awesome designers in producing the 22/23 Hackney Wick jerseys in association with Netflix and Top Boy, who wanted to sponsor the team.

We worked with London-based designers Labrum to make a truly memorable shirt. We then retailed the shirt on Kitlocker.com where we’ve sold four figures worth of units. We were able to offer this to consumers at a very reasonable price point and we’ve also been able to give back a large portion of the profit to the club (and their charity ‘Grassroots for Good‘).

By the end of August, the team will have received more than £13,000 from shirt sales alone (across both the home and away). The weight of Netflix and Top Boy behind this truly catapulted the team (and the shirt) into the mainstream stratosphere. The shirt got coverage on some of the biggest culture sites in the UK:

"The money raised goes a long way to help us be sustainable."

Recently we spoke to Grenfell Athletic about how their shirt sales have provided them with the revenue to help develop the club.

Bobby Kasanga, Founder of Hackney Wick FC has a similar message:

“The shirt collaboration with Top Boy was a massive game changer for us at Hackney Wick FC. This is the most amount of jerseys we’ve ever sold and the money raised goes a long way to help us be sustainable. Running a semi-professional football club is very expensive so this gives us much needed reinforcements to keep the club ticking along.

We have become accustomed to collaborating with big brands on our kits, the 2018 Nike collaborations, the 2020 Gaffer Collaboration and of course this Netflix one really set the benchmark on promo and how working with big brands should be done. The young people were ecstatic to be involved in the shoot and it was a great experience for all.

We have seen many people rocking the kits which brings us so much joy to know that people are actually wearing our brand. Can’t wait to see what we can create next.

Kitlocker were top class from concept, to production, to execution. Would definitely recommend their services to others.”
