Tuesday 2nd October saw Kitlocker.com play host to the inaugural Kitlocker College Cup at St. George’s Park. Four top colleges battled it out for the title, with SGS College eventually running out winners ahead of MK College, Fowler Education & Football Academy (FEFA) and FAB Academy.

It was a very close competition with an impressively high standard of football displayed by all four teams, any of whom could have legitimately gone home with the trophy. For a roundup of the day’s action, check out the video below!

St George’s Park is a state of the art facility in Burton upon Trent which was opened in 2012 as the FA’s national football centre. Both the English Men’s and Women’s senior teams use the facility as their training base, as well as the England youth teams. The 330 acre complex is quite literally the home of English football.

The competition was a group stage format, with each team facing off against each other in tense 30 minute matches before culminating in a final between the top two placing sides.

There was drama throughout, particularly in the final game of the group stage, in which MK College knew that they needed to beat SGS 3-0 in order to go through on goal difference ahead of FEFA. MK College duly delivered and set up a replay vs SGS in the final.

SGS, who were out for revenge, came out of the blocks quickly in the final and took a 2-0 lead over MK College. MK got a fine goal back on the breakaway to set up a nervy finish but the SGS defence held firm and they ran out deserved 2-1 winners to take the trophy back to Gloucestershire, a feat which Head Coach David Hockaday described as “an honour”.

Our massive thanks go to Nike and The FA, who have helped us to provide this amazing opportunity to the four colleges involved. We hope to continue working together to provide even more unique experiences for our customers in the future.

We’d also like to thank the staff and players from all four colleges who conducted themselves impeccably throughout the day and made running the tournament very easy. The quality of football on show was also a joy to watch for all involved.

Thanks to FilmMyMatch, who admirably endured the elements to provide us with some brilliant match footage.

Last but not least, big thanks to our referees from Durham and Huntingdonshire, who brought an excellent standard of officiating to each match.

Keep your eyes peeled for a special challenge video filmed at St George’s Park, involving members of Team Kitlocker showing off their own footballing ability (or lack of).

We look forward to hosting the 2019 Kitlocker College Cup!
