What Goes Into a Sports First Aid Kit?

When you’re in charge of a football team, rugby team, hockey team or in fact any sports team; you’re also in charge of the welfare of those involved.

Depending on your sport, most games or training sessions will go without a hitch but unfortunately injuries do happen and you need to be prepared for when they do.

One essential piece of equipment for any team or sports club is a well stocked first aid kit or medical bag.

Many of you will have undergone first aid courses throughout your time being involved in grassroots sport, or maybe even for work. So you should have a fairly rough idea of what goes into a first aid kit and what it’s used for. But it’s always good to jog your memory.

Read on to find out what goes into the Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit ⬇️

The Bag

It may seem obvious but it’s important to have all of the items in your first aid kit in one place and well organised. In a situation where someone is injured, you don’t have the time to waste rooting around for what you need.

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with a handy and compact bag which is clearly marked “First Aid”, making it easy to find for whoever may need it.

Cleansing Wipes

These are essential for cleaning any grazes or cuts in the immediate aftermath of an injury. Sport can be a dirty hobby, especially when playing outdoors, so it’s important to keep any area of broken skin clean before applying a plaster or dressing.

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with 20 cleansing wipes.

Bandages

Used to apply compression and keep dressings in place. They come in various sizes and styles, to be used depending on the type of injury.

The Kitlocker First Aid Kit comes with 4 triangular bandages, 2 crepe bandages, 2 conforming bandages and 1 elastic adhesive bandage.

Eye Wash Pods

It’s easy to get dirt, grit or rubber crumbs from a 3G football pitch in your eye when playing sport. But sometimes it’s not so easy to get it out.

Eye wash pods contain a sterile saline solution designed to clean out your eyes to prevent any damage or infection. There are 5 eye wash pods included in the Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit.

Foil Blanket

These are used to retain body temperature when someone is unable to move or needs to stay still. Ambulance waiting times combined with British weather make this item potentially really handy to have.

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with one foil blanket.

Sprays

Hot and cold sprays can help deal with muscular aches and pains. In a handy aerosol can, they are less messy than some of the traditional hot/cold cream treatments and there is no need to get it all over your hands.

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with 1 can of both heat and freeze spray. It also comes with a spray bottle for water.

Gloves

Hygiene is very important in first aid. Especially when treating any injury with broken skin in a sporting environment. To reduce the risk of infection, clean gloves should always be worn.

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with 2 pairs of vinyl gloves.

Dressings & Plasters

Dressings are used to cover and protect grazes, cuts and wounds. There are lots of different types and sizes of dressings that can be used depending on the injury you’re dealing with. And we’re not going to insult anyone’s intelligence by explaining what plasters are…

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with all of the following:

  • 2x HSE eye pad dressings.
  • 2x HSE medium size dressings.
  • 1x HSE large size dressings.
  • 5x low adherent dressing 5x5cm.
  • 3x low adherent dressing 10x10cm.
  • 40x assorted washproof plasters.

Ice Packs

You don’t always have a bag of frozen peas handy on a Sunday league football pitch. So ice packs are a convenient addition to any first aid kit and are especially suitable for sports and other physical activities where bumps, strains and sprains are possible.

The Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit comes with 2 instant ice packs. Once activated, each pack provides up to 25 minutes of ice cold therapy.

Tape & Safety Pins

Used to keep bandages and dressings in place. The microporous tape that comes in the Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit is multi-purpose, non-woven and tearable by hand.

The kit also comes with a pack of safety pins.

Resuscitation Aid

This is used in the more extreme cases where CPR is necessary. It’s an oval shaped mouthpiece which helps with the process of giving mouth to mouth to a patient. To be used following proper first aid training.

The Kitlocker First Aid Kit comes with 1 resuscitation aid.

Scissors

Ok, we all know what scissors are. These are handy when adjusting bandages and dressings to the correct size according to the patient’s needs.

The Kitlocker First Aid Kit comes with 1 pair of tuff cut scissors which are designed specifically for use in first aid.

Refill Packs

It is so important to keep your First Aid Kit well stocked. The last thing you want to do is open it up in an emergency and find that you’re missing the bit of kit that you need because it was used a few weeks ago and not replaced.

For that reason, it’s handy to always have a refill pack available BEFORE it’s needed. So items can be replaced immediately when used.

We offer refill packs which contain all of the items included in the Kitlocker Elite First Aid Kit.
