is excited to announce the launch of the Kitlocker College Cup, taking place on Tuesday 2nd of October. The tournament will be held at St George’s Park, the training base for the England national football teams. The four colleges participating this year are FAB Academy, SGS College, Fowler Education & Football Academy (FEFA) and MK College.

St George’s Park is a state of the art facility in Burton upon Trent which was opened in 2012 as the FA’s national football centre. Both the English Men’s and Women’s senior teams use the facility as their training base, as well as the England youth teams. The 330 acre complex is quite literally the home of English football. The College Cup teams will be battling it out on the world class indoor 3G pitch, normally used by the likes of Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard and Fran Kirby.

The format of the College Cup will see the colleges face each other in 30 minute matches, with the top two competing in the final to find out who will be crowned the first Kitlocker College Cup Champions. Whoever wins, all of the players will have had the unbelievable opportunity to grace the same pitch as their England World Cup heroes.

Meet the Colleges…

FEFA was founded 3 years ago by Liverpool and England legend Robbie Fowler. The mission of the academy is to give the teenagers of Merseyside the chance to further their education alongside playing high level football. Many of the academy’s students have joined after leaving the academies of the area’s professional clubs and FEFA strives to provide these youngsters with the opportunity to create successful careers in the game.

FAB Academy is an educational centre and football academy founded in 2009 by Nas Bashir, a UEFA Pro Licensed coach who was an academy coach for Reading FC, amongst other roles in the professional game. The academy is based at Grade I listed manor house Bisham Abbey, Buckinghamshire, which also boasts 3 state of the art football pitches within its grounds. Bristol Academy of Sport is the sporting arm of SGS College. The Academy provides students with the opportunity to develop in not only football but a wide range of sports including American Football, Rugby and Athletics. The academy has had numerous success stories, partly thanks to its close links with Bristol City FC, Bristol Rugby, Bristol Flyers Basketball and Forest Green Rovers FC. The football academy’s highly experienced coaching staff includes former Leeds United and Forest Green manager Dave Hockaday, who believes the tournament will be a fantastic opportunity:

“SGS College had 4 players sign for Professional football clubs in the 2017-18 season. 3 signed straight pro for Bristol City, 1 has already made his First Team debut and another has appeared on the bench (both at the age of 18). We are striving to create as many pathways and opportunities for our players and this prestigious mini tournament at SGP is viewed by ourselves as a massive honour and shop window for the boys to showcase their talents alongside 3 of the very best College Football Academies in the country.”

MK College Football Academy based in Milton Keynes is one of the top performing College academies in the country. The college provides the players with excellent educational opportunities whilst also training under the guidance of MK’s highly qualified senior coaches. The results were there for all to see in May when the academy triumphed in the final of the ECFA Men’s Premier Cup.
